Terms of Service
Last updated: July 19, 2026
RedactWorks gives you the technology, the review tools, and the convenience to find and remove sensitive information from your documents — quickly and provably. What we don’t do is decide for you that a document is safe to release. Every redaction passes through a review stage where you inspect, edit, and sign off. By approving and downloading a document, you confirm you have reviewed it and accept the result. That final judgment — and the accuracy of what you release — is yours.
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are a binding agreement between you and Barter-Win LLC, a California limited liability company (“RedactWorks,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) governing your use of the RedactWorks hosted service at app.redactworks.ai, our website, and — where referenced in Section 3(d) — the downloadable RedactWorks Local edition (together, the “Service”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy and Refund Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Eligibility and accounts
- You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract.
- You are responsible for the activity under your account and for keeping your sign-in credentials confidential. Notify us promptly of any unauthorized use.
- You agree to provide accurate account information and to keep it current.
2. What the Service does
The Service helps you detect and redact potentially sensitive information in documents. It uses automated detection (including AI and pattern-based scanning) to suggest items that may be sensitive, presents them to you for review, applies permanent redactions to the items you approve (including any you add manually), and runs an automated verification pass. The Service is an assistive tool: it is designed to make a human reviewer faster and more thorough, not to replace that reviewer’s judgment.
3. Your final review and sign-off — you own the accuracy
This section is important. Please read it.
(a) You make the final decision. The Service includes a review and verification stage in which you examine the detected items, remove or add redactions, and approve the result before any document is finalized and downloaded. Automated detection is not perfect and may miss sensitive information, mis-classify content, or flag items that are not sensitive — particularly in scanned images, low-quality text, unusual formats, or languages and patterns it does not recognize. You are solely responsible for reviewing each document and confirming that all information you intend to remove has in fact been removed before you download, share, file, or otherwise rely on it.
(b) Scanned, photographed, and handwritten documents. Detection on scanned, photographed, or handwritten material relies on optical character recognition (OCR) and is best-effort only. These documents are especially likely to require your manual review and correction (including drawing redaction boxes by hand), and you should not assume automated detection has captured everything in them.
(c) Approval = acceptance; finalizing is your certification. When you approve redactions and download, export, or otherwise finalize a document, you represent that you have reviewed the output and accept it as accurate and complete for your purposes. The act of finalizing, downloading, or exporting a document is your certification that you reviewed and approved its redactions. We provide the detection technology, the review and editing tools, the permanent-removal step, and the verification check; the judgment that the document is safe to release is yours.
(d) The same applies to RedactWorks Local. The downloadable, offline RedactWorks Local edition gives you the same technology and convenience on your own hardware. It carries the same responsibility: you purchase the tools and convenience, and you remain responsible for reviewing and signing off on the accuracy of every output. The Local edition is licensed under its own end-user license; where that license is silent, this Section 3 governs.
(e) Not legal advice. RedactWorks does not provide legal advice and does not determine your obligations under any law (such as FERPA, HIPAA, public-records, or privacy laws). You are responsible for knowing what you are required to redact and for meeting those obligations.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to: (a) upload content you do not have the right to process; (b) use the Service to violate any law or the rights of others; (c) attempt to access another user’s data or our systems without authorization; (d) probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of the Service except as expressly permitted; (e) interfere with or disrupt the Service; (f) reverse-engineer or resell the Service except as allowed by law; or (g) use the Service to build a competing product.
5. Your content and ownership
- You own your documents. You retain all rights to the documents you upload and the redacted outputs you create. We claim no ownership of your content.
- Limited license to operate the Service. You grant us a limited license to host, process, and transmit your content solely to provide the Service to you. We do not use your documents to train AI models. See the Privacy Policy.
- We own the Service. The RedactWorks software, models, designs, and trademarks are owned by us or our licensors. These Terms grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the Service; no other rights are granted.
6. Plans, credits, and billing
- Credit unit. One redaction credit covers the redaction of one document of up to 50 pages. Longer documents consume one additional credit per additional 50 pages (or part thereof), disclosed before processing. In a job containing multiple documents, each document consumes its own credit(s). Repeated AI re-scans of the same job are subject to a reasonable fair-use limit.
- Free credits. New accounts include a number of free redaction credits. Free credits have no cash value and may change or expire.
- Credit packs. One-time purchases (e.g., a 3-credit pack) add credits to your account. Credits are consumed per delivered document as described above.
- Subscription. The monthly plan grants a set number of credits per billing period (a fair-use cap), and renews automatically each month until you cancel.
- Auto-renewal and cancellation. By starting a subscription, you authorize us, through our payment processor, to charge your payment method the then-current price each billing period until you cancel. You can cancel at any time through the billing portal in your account; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current period. See the Refund Policy.
- Payments. Payments are processed by Stripe; we do not receive or store your full card details. You authorize the charges you initiate and agree to keep a valid payment method on file for active subscriptions.
- Price changes. We may change prices; for subscriptions we will give reasonable advance notice, and changes apply to the next billing period.
- Taxes. Prices may exclude applicable taxes, which we may collect where required.
7. Third-party services
The Service relies on third-party providers (including Google Cloud and Stripe). Your use may also be subject to their terms. We are not responsible for third-party services, and their availability is outside our control.
8. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. Without limiting Section 3, WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL DETECT OR REMOVE ALL SENSITIVE INFORMATION, that outputs will be error-free or complete, or that the Service will be uninterrupted or secure. You acknowledge that redaction is assistive and that your review and sign-off are the control that determines whether a document is safe to release. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
9. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, REDACTWORKS AND ITS OWNERS, EMPLOYEES, AND SUPPLIERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, REVENUE, OR GOODWILL, OR FOR ANY UNAUTHORIZED DISCLOSURE OF INFORMATION RESULTING FROM CONTENT YOU APPROVED AND RELEASED. Without limiting the foregoing, and because your review and sign-off under Section 3 is the control that determines whether a document is safe to release, we are not liable for damages arising from a failure to detect or redact any particular item of sensitive information. Our total liability for any claim arising out of or relating to the Service or these Terms is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for the Service in the twelve (12) months before the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) one hundred U.S. dollars ($100). These limits apply even if a remedy fails of its essential purpose. The limitations in this section do not apply to liability that cannot be limited under applicable law (such as for gross negligence, willful misconduct, or personal injury). Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
10. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless RedactWorks from claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of (a) the documents you upload or release, (b) your use of the Service, (c) your violation of these Terms or any law, or (d) your failure to review and verify outputs before relying on them.
11. Suspension and termination
You may stop using the Service and close your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms, fail to pay, or use the Service in a way that risks harm to others or to the Service. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including Sections 3, 5, 8, 9, 10, and 12) will survive.
12. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. You agree that the state and federal courts located in Orange County, California have exclusive jurisdiction, except that either party may seek injunctive relief in any court of competent jurisdiction.
13. Changes to these Terms or the Service
We may modify the Service or these Terms. For material changes to these Terms, we will update the “Last updated” date and, where appropriate, notify you. Your continued use after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms. We may add, change, or discontinue features.
