Why a black box loses privilege
A rectangle drawn over text only covers it — the characters stay in the file’s text layer, one select-and-paste away. This is behind nearly every famous redaction failure in court filings, where “redacted” passages were recovered by copying and pasting straight off the page. Metadata, comments, and tracked changes survive page-level edits entirely, and any of them can carry the very content you fought to withhold.

No. The box only covers the text; the characters stay in the file and can be revealed with select-and-paste. RedactWorks removes the text itself, strips hidden data, and re-scans the output to confirm the approved items are gone.
