Frequently asked questions

Short answers, honestly given. If yours isn't here, email support@redactworks.ai — a person reads it.

The product

What does RedactWorks actually do?

It finds sensitive data in your document (names, SSNs, account numbers, medical details, and more), highlights every item for you to review, and — only after you approve — permanently redacts it. The text under every black box is removed, not covered, and the finished file is re-scanned to verify each approved item is really gone.

Is the redaction really permanent?

Yes. We remove the underlying text rather than drawing a box over it, and we strip hidden data (metadata, annotations, embedded content) as well. Many tools only cover text with a black rectangle — select-and-paste reveals it. Ours doesn't, and we prove it: the output is re-extracted and re-scanned before delivery.

If the re-scan finds anything an approved redaction missed, your download is blocked until you've looked at it — we won't hand you a file we can't stand behind.

What does "verified" mean?

After redaction, we re-extract the text of the finished file and scan it again. "Verified" means every item you approved for removal is absent from that re-scan — text and metadata. It's an automated check of the actual output, not a promise about the process.

What file types can I redact?

PDF, Word (.doc/.docx), Excel, PowerPoint, RTF, OpenDocument, HTML, plain text, CSV, emails (.eml/.msg), and scanned images (PNG, JPG, TIFF, BMP, GIF — read with OCR). One redaction covers one document, up to 50 pages.

Do I have to accept what the AI finds?

No — review is the heart of the product. Every detected item is a checkbox: uncheck anything that should stay visible, add words or phrases it missed, and nothing is redacted until you approve. A few high-risk categories (SSNs, financial and medical data) stay locked on so they can't be missed by accident.

Privacy

Is my data used to train AI?

Never. Our AI processing runs on Google Cloud's Vertex AI, which is contractually barred from using customer content to train models — so the guarantee is Google's commitment as well as ours.

Can I delete my files from your servers?

Yes, per redaction, right from the app — and the deletion is checked: after deleting, the server re-scans storage and reports the verified count of what remains (zero, or we tell you otherwise and you can contact support). We offer this right after you've saved your file, when our copies have no further purpose.

The mobile app

Is there a mobile app?

Yes — the Android app is on Google Play, free to download, same account and same engine as the web app. The iPhone app is in App Review; leave your email on the homepage and we'll send the link when it's out. Until then, iPhone users can use the site in Safari — it's mobile-ready.

Where does "Save to my phone" put my redacted file?

On Android, the first save asks you to set a save folder — the picker opens on Downloads, one tap accepts it. Every later save goes there silently. You can see, change, or remove the folder under Account → Save folder, or use "Save somewhere else…" for a one-off location (which becomes the new default).

On iPhone, every save goes through the share sheet and you choose the destination each time (e.g. "Save to Files"). Why the difference: Android's scoped storage only lets an app write to a folder you've granted through the system picker — that grant is the permission, and opening on Downloads is the closest thing to a default the platform allows.

Can I start on my phone and finish on the web, or vice versa?

Yes. Same account, same redactions — a document uploaded on one shows up on the other, at whatever stage it's in. One current limit: hand-drawn redaction boxes and whole-page blackout are web-only for now, so a request needing those finishes on the web.

Billing

What does it cost?

Every new account starts with 3 free redactions — no card required. After that: a 3-redaction pack for $1.99, or $14.99/month for 150 redactions a month. One redaction covers one whole document, up to 50 pages — never per page.

How do I cancel or get a refund?

Cancel anytime from your account's billing portal — you keep access through the period you paid for. Refunds are spelled out plainly in our Refund & Cancellation Policy, including a 14-day full refund on unused credit packs.

Support

How do I get help?

Email support@redactworks.ai. Include the request ID (it looks like RDW-2026-123) if your question is about a specific redaction — it's shown at the top of the redaction screen.
